Another Spectacular Wedding!

Once again Shelly Funke has shot another great wedding for the books! Here are some of my favorites shots that she recently got! Let me know what you think. I love how she is always able to capture the mood (regardless of what ends up in the photo in the end).

Getting Married?? Here’s something to think about, the first moments after you say I do should be the most intimate and special to you and your new husband. A great idea to really capture that moment is a quick on location shoot just you, your brand new husband and your “fly on the wall” photographer. Plan a quick trip to a nearby location or simply walk a private and scenic walk around your venue. This is a guaranteed way to steal a couple extra special moments on your big day. ** Don’t forget to still allow suffieceint time for any wedding party or immediate family photos that you may still want in addition.

Tis the season for. . . Birthday Parties?!?!

Seems to be everyone has their birthday this time of year and no one wants to miss a moment of it! Fortunately Shelly has been there and captured them all! I wanted to post a couple of her latest parties and let you know to be keeping an eye on her new Flickr account for more images of the festivities. Don’t forget the Holidays are around the corner and it’s time to get family portraits checked off your list. Just comment below and get your shoot scheduled today!!

Enjoy the Party!

More bang for your buck

As Shelly continues to teach me her tricks of the trade I find myself more and more amazed at how much she is willing to do for her clients. This last week Shelly photographed a 60th birthday party and took the opportunity to turn the event into a true family portrait moment. Once Shelly noticed that the event she was shooting would be easily captured in her location she set about organizing families that were attending into family portraits that they can now use in their upcoming holiday cards. The guests and client were thrilled with this unexpected offer and truly got a big bang for their birthday bucks! Here are some of the photos she took from the party. Can you see how she is not your typical photographer?? I CAN!!! Also don’t forget to check out her photobucket for always added new photos.

Holiday Cards are right around the corner!!!

Well, I assume at least most of you have thought about the approaching Holidays by now. Making that gift list, figuring out your Turkey day plans and putting the finishing touches on that Halloween costume. So have you thought about your Holiday cards this upcoming season. Well have no fear Shelly is and she is still taking appointment!! Since Shelly has done our family photos every year it is only safe to assume we will be using her for our holiday cards. In the past Shelly has just given over your portraits and allowed you to use whoever you like to have your cards printed but this year she is offering something more. She is offering 10 templates through a professional printer to add a special touch to your holiday cards…..BUT that’s not even the best part, Shelly is a studio free, locations preferred photographer. She prefers to capture you and your loved ones in your most intimate comfortable environment in order to capture that feeling in the photo. I have included some of my favorite family portraits for you to view and think about what you would love your Holiday cards to say!

Hello Hello! After talking with Shelly this week I have learned she is about to take one some new work adventures after the first of the year. Do your children attend daycare and you just aren’t getting the great photos you want? Shelly is about to fix that. After talking with some of her daughters friends she has realized that many parents miss out on those yearly photos before they actually get to the true school years. So starting in 2012 Shelly (along with her team) are setting out to market to daycares and montessori schools in the Dallas area. Know a school that could really use her photography please comment and let us know so we can include them. But don’t worry this will not interfere with her bridals, events, portraits or weddings. Got an event coming up and you don’t want a moment to get missed, comment and let me know so I can contact Shelly and get your event covered.

Well, Im not going to get on and write without adding some more photos. Shelly has also updated her wedding album on her photobucket so I figured I could share some of the newer ones. I believe the fist one is from The Carpenters House! I just added the link if you want to check it out for your future parties.

*Advice Alert: The best way to properly store photos to last a lifetime. . . and a house fire.

For as long as I can remember the images of my past were presented in front of me in a beautiful photo album. Gorgeous, high priced, leather bound covers that rival the beauty of the photos inside. I assumed since everyone I know stored them this way it must be the best way to preserve our photos, right? I was stunned to find out that all of my family memories were not being properly stored. Shelly not only explained to me that cardboard boxes we’re the easiest way to store (and look at) all my photos but it was also the safest way to store them.  For years she urged me to remove my images from behind harmful plastics and simply place them in boxes. Really inexpensive, good looking photo boxes. It wasn’t until her own house fire in January of this year that I truly learned the lesson she had been trying to teach me. As the many, many, many, many friends she has gathered to replace everything she had lost (and she lost everything) an astonishing moment happened. A dear police officer friend appeared at her daughter’s door with two soaking wet, half frozen (it was only 19 degrees the night of the fire) cardboard photo boxes. I was amazed, EVERY photo from her children’s lives were saved. Now given there were some extreme circumstances that helped save those photos had they been stored in regular albums the heat from the fire would have individually melted every photo to it’s cover. So the bottom line of this post: Shelly’s best photo storage advice is get some $4 photo boxes from Hobby Lobby and save yourself some serious heartache!

Don’t worry I’m not going to take all this time to talk about a photographer and not showcase some more of her work. Her are a few of my favorite random shots. I hope you enjoy them as well.

Enjoy 🙂

Let me tell you about Shelly Funke. . .

Hi. As you know from the first post this is a blog about Shelly Funke (pronounced funky). How I know her or for how long is irrelevant, this is about her art. Shelly has been a photographer for over 25 years and as a word of mouth only promoter she currently stands without the true work and acknowledgement she has earned.  Through this blog you will be able to see her work, ask her advice and gain helpful hints and tools to help you grow your own photographic talents. She is a mother of two children (both with children of their own now), a loyal friend, and a phenomenal photographer.

As this blog progresses I will keep you up to date on her current shoots, her portfolio and of course, always her latest, greatest shot!

Shelly is currently working full time at a commercial studio through out the weeks but filling her weekends with weddings. In September alone she has shot two weddings, a bridal, and an anniversary party. With such versatile work it is hard to sum up her talents. She is the type of photographer that will shoot anything and I mean ANYTHING. Her fun, loose, go with the flow yet highly professional attitude makes her the perfect addition to any event. Whether she is reigning in a group of hundreds for a group shot or just the fly on the wall during an intimate moment, she can handle it all. I suppose at this point the next best thing to do is shut up and show you her work. So sit back and enjoy.

The bridals below are from one of her most recent weddings in Austin. The bride had not done bridals prior to the wedding day but Shelly saw an opportunity after the Bride was already dressed and shot them on the spot.

Finally I would like to add the fantastic review the DJ from this same wedding posted just days after working with Shelly.

I hope you enjoyed this first blog, please feel free to leave your comments or questions and check back soon for some helpful tips in how to properly store your photos. The only things that came out of Shelly’s three alarm house fire were her PHOTOS!!

This is a post
